Omani members from the voting committee were given permission to vote early on October 8, in order to be available to observe Omani voters in polling stations around the country during election day on October 15. This month’s election in Oman may give the small Gulf sultanate a glossier democratic veneer, but it is unlikely to bury the discontent exposed by protests in February inspired by Arab uprisings elsewhere.
